Issue #5.5: Hunter S. Thompson Has Nothing On Me
Becoming the premier Gonzo journalist of real estate Substack and fall movies I'm looking forward to.
The Silvert Lining is a place where I talk about real estate, cool homes for sale, things I’m looking forward to, and how I’ve been spending my time. In addition to this newsletter, I also post regularly on Instagram. You can follow me at Dan Silvert Homes.
Last week’s issue featured an interview with Mike Belfor, an experienced mortgage banker I’ve done numerous deals with over the years. In addition to the written interview featured last week, I also interviewed Mike for a series of videos. This was a fun project for me, and I look forward to featuring more interviews and videos in future issues.

I’ve shared in previous issues of this newsletter that I love seeing movies at the theater. We’re fortunate in the Bay Area to still have numerous independent movie theaters, many of which serve food and cocktails. My favorites include the Rialto Cinemas Elmwood in Berkeley; Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland; New Parkway in Oakland; Orinda Theatre in Orinda; Rialto Cinemas Cerrito in El Cerrito; and Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco.
Now that the weather is turning cooler and the sun is setting earlier, award season movies are starting to be released. Here are the movies I plan to see this fall:
Conclave is already in theaters, but I haven’t had a chance to see Ralph Fiennes help select a new Pope yet.
Ridley Scott’s original Gladiator is one of my favorite movies. When the “how often do you think about the Roman Empire” question was making the rounds, my answer was “I think about Gladiator all the time.” It has been 24 years since the original film, and I am excited to see Gladiator II in theaters on November 22.
Denzel Washington has an ongoing project to adapt August Wilson’s “Century Cycle” plays and the latest film adaptation, The Piano Lesson, is currently in theaters and on Netflix on November 22. I’m thinking about having a Denzel Washington themed weekend and seeing Gladiator II and The Piano Lesson as a double feature.
Timothée Chalamet plays Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown in theaters on December 25. I’m Jewish so Christmas Day is usually low key for me; seeing a biopic about my favorite Jewish singer-songwriter sounds like a great complement to a Chinese food dinner!
After the demise of the Castro Theatre as a dedicated movie palace, I was so relieved Noir City found a new home at the equally majestic Grand Lake. $6 Tuesdays can’t be beat!
Loved the interviews w Mike! Such a super knowledgeable, super guy. It is clear that, for both of you, you care deeply about helping buyers to have the best experience possible.
